Hello.  This week is Deaf Awareness Week.

It is a perfect opportunity to consider ways of improving Deaf Services, raise awareness of British Sign Language and celebrate the Deaf Community.

It is also a great opportunity to explain a little more about the ISO 18841 Interpreting Services Standard.

By achieving this standard, an organisation can demonstrate a commitment to providing a high-quality Interpreting Service.    In my role, as a freelance external auditor, I will ensure that an organisation’s processes through policies and procedures meet the standard criteria.  For example, evidenced through their Interpreter recruitment processes or by demonstrating feedback & review procedures that are in place.

The standard enables both those within the Deaf and Hearing communities to recognise those organisations with ISO 18841, and the level of standards to expect from that Interpreting Service.   Being Deaf Awareness week, this is time to consider good quality services for all Deaf people.

If you are or know of an organisation who may be interested to learn more about the Interpreting Services Standard, please contact ATC.  ATC will be able to provide you with helpful information about the standard and what is involved.  Thanks for watching.

Happy Deaf Awareness Week!
